Two people injured in a train derailment in British Columbia

Two railway crew members were sent to the hospital after several locomotives derailed and a fire broke out in one of them east of Revelstoke in British Columbia.

Terry Cunha, a spokesperson for the railway company, said the incident occurred around 10 p.m. on Friday about 13 kilometers east of Revelstoke.

Cunha explained that four locomotives from the train derailed after colliding with the rear of another train stopped on the tracks.

He added that two crew members were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Cunha said a fire broke out in one of the locomotives

four and was extinguished.

He confirmed that railway crews are on site and carrying out cleanup operations and that the derailment is under investigation.
