The Swedish police announced on Tuesday that several people were injured in a shooting incident that occurred in the center of Uppsala, located north of the capital Stockholm.
The police clarified in an official statement that they "found several people injured with wounds apparently caused by gunfire, after receiving reports of a loud noise in the area." The statement added that the authorities received calls from citizens who reported hearing sounds similar to gunfire in the city center.
The authorities have not yet specified the number of injured or the severity of their injuries, while the police confirmed that they have imposed a security cordon over a wide area at the scene of the incident, noting that investigations and inquiries into the circumstances of the event are still ongoing.
