In a tragic incident, an Indian passenger plane crashed while en route to the United Kingdom shortly after taking off from Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi, resulting in the deaths of all 242 people on board, including a Canadian citizen.
The Indian police announced in an official statement that "no survivors" were found from the incident, indicating that rescue teams recovered the bodies of all passengers and crew from the crash site, which occurred in a remote agricultural area on the outskirts of the capital.
Sudden technical failure and outbreak of fire
According to initial reports, the plane, operated by "SkyBridge Air," encountered a sudden technical failure just minutes after takeoff, leading to a loss of control and crash. Images from the crash site showed widespread fires engulfing the aircraft's structure, while the sound of explosions was heard in the surrounding area.
Indian Prime Minister mourns the victims
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his "deep sorrow and shock" at the disaster, writing in a post on the "X" platform:
“I am deeply saddened by the plane crash in New Delhi. Our hearts are with the victims' families during this difficult time. I have instructed the authorities to provide all possible support to the investigation and rescue teams.”
Canadian citizen among the victims
The Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that among the victims was a Canadian citizen, noting that the Canadian embassy in India is following up on the matter and coordinating with local authorities to provide consular support to the victim's family.
Opening a comprehensive investigation
The Indian Civil Aviation Authority announced that it has initiated an urgent investigation to uncover the causes of the incident, and specialized technical teams have been sent to the site to retrieve the black boxes and assess the data related to the aircraft and its technical record.
