The United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, emphasized the need for the future Palestinian state to consist of Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem, stressing that Gaza must remain an integral part of an independent, democratic, and sovereign Palestinian state.

Guterres affirmed that Gaza and the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, should be treated as a single entity governed by a Palestinian government, while simultaneously rejecting any long-term Israeli military presence in Gaza.

The Secretary-General also called for an end to unilateral actions in the West Bank, pointing to the dangers of continued settlement expansion and threats of annexing land.

A ceasefire in Gaza at stake

In a related context, Guterres emphasized the importance of maintaining the ceasefire in Gaza and ensuring the implementation of the prisoner release agreement, warning that the coming days will be crucial in this regard.

He urged all parties to spare no effort to ensure the agreement's continuation and full implementation, warning of the repercussions of its collapse on humanitarian and security conditions.

Genocide with American support

It is noteworthy that, with American support, Israel committed acts of genocide in Gaza between October 7, 2023, and January 19, 2025, resulting in the martyrdom and injury of more than 160,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children, in addition to over 14,000 missing persons, according to human rights and international reports.
