Recent reports have indicated that the Gaza Strip is suffering from widespread destruction due to recent military operations. According to a report published by Al-Hurra TV, more than 90% of the buildings in the eastern areas of the strip, including over 3,500 buildings, have been destroyed or severely damaged as of May 2024.
On another note, a report by Amnesty International indicated that 70% of homes across Gaza have been destroyed, with the figure reaching 80% in the northern part of the strip, in addition to the complete destruction of civil infrastructure.
An analysis of satellite images conducted by the United Nations also showed that two-thirds of the buildings in Gaza before the war, which amounts to more than 170,000 buildings, have been demolished or leveled, equating to about 69% of the total buildings in the strip.
These figures reflect the magnitude of the humanitarian disaster faced by the residents of Gaza, as they encounter immense challenges in reconstruction and providing shelter for hundreds of thousands of displaced persons.
