The Ontario Government, led by Doug Ford, announced today, Sunday, the official cancellation of tolls along the eastern Highway 407, in a move the government says will save some drivers up to $7,200 annually.

The decision includes the elimination of tolls on all vehicles across the section between Highways 412 and 418, starting today, following a prior announcement of this measure as part of the government's plan to make mobility easier and more affordable for the province’s residents.

Transportation Minister Brabmeet Sarkaria said this decision aims to “provide financial support to families and workers” and comes as part of the government’s commitment “to reduce the cost of living and facilitate mobility in Ontario's fastest-growing areas.”

The Ministry of Transportation noted that users of these roads will benefit from the complete cancellation of tolls throughout the year, which could translate into significant savings, especially for those who use the road daily for work purposes.

It is worth mentioning that this step has been widely discussed in recent years, especially with the increasing population density and urban growth in the eastern suburbs of Toronto, which has put pressure on infrastructure and raised commuting costs for many residents.
