Canadian Ethan Katzberg won the gold medal in the men's hammer throw at the Paris Olympics on Sunday with a dominant performance.
Katzberg, from Nanaimo, British Columbia, opened the competition with an Olympic record of 84.12 meters and faced no serious challenges during the rest of the competition to win Canada's first gold medal in this event.
The world champion also achieved the second-best throw at 82.28 meters.
No other competitor reached the 80-meter mark.
Hungarian Bence Halasz earned the silver medal with a throw of 79.97 meters, while Mykhailo Kukhani won the bronze medal with a throw of 79.39 meters.
Rowan Hamilton from Chilliwack, British Columbia, finished in ninth place with a throw of 76.59 meters, after coming in second behind Katzberg in the qualifiers.
