Washington - Agencies: Billionaire Elon Musk, who holds the position of head of the Government Efficiency Ministry in President Donald Trump's administration, issued a directive to all federal government employees to prepare detailed reports on their achievements over the past week within 48 hours, warning that non-compliance will be considered resignation.

Surprising Action and Controversy

In a message published on platform X (formerly Twitter), Musk said: “In line with President Donald Trump's instructions, all federal employees will soon receive an email asking them to clarify what they accomplished last week. Failure to respond will be considered resignation.”

This step comes as part of the Trump administration's efforts to restructure the federal government and reduce its size, as the American president called on Musk to “increase the rigor” in his efforts to cut what he termed “waste” in government departments.

Criticism and Warnings from the American Federation of Government Employees

This directive has caused confusion within federal institutions, with some agencies advising their employees not to respond until the validity of the email is confirmed.

In this context, Everett Kelly, president of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), criticized the decision, describing it as a “complete disregard for federal employees and the vital services they provide to the American people.” He confirmed that the federation would challenge any illegal dismissals that may result from this action.

Austerity Policies and Ongoing Restructuring

It is worth noting that the Trump administration, in collaboration with Musk, has previously taken steps to reduce the size of the federal workforce, including laying off thousands of employees and freezing billions of dollars in federal grants.

This move is expected to spark widespread discussion about mechanisms for evaluating government performance, especially concerning the involvement of business leaders in administrative decision-making within federal institutions.
