Ontario Premier Doug Ford stated that the meeting of provincial leaders with federal Prime Minister Mark Carney, held in Saskatoon, was "the best in ten years," praising the positive atmosphere and constructive discussions that dominated the gathering.
Ford explained, in a statement to reporters following the meeting, that the provincial leaders and the federal government demonstrated an unprecedented level of agreement on several key issues, particularly in the areas of housing, infrastructure, energy, and enhancing economic cooperation between the provinces.
Ford added: “We saw a genuine desire from everyone to cooperate, beyond partisan politics. This meeting was different from anything I have witnessed in previous years.”
The meeting addressed prominent issues, including plans to accelerate housing projects, expand the transportation network, and enhance energy capabilities, along with the need to support innovation and achieve growth amid increasing economic and trade challenges, especially following the ongoing trade war with the United States.
Prime Minister Mark Carney had confirmed, in a statement following the meeting, that his government is "committed to working hand in hand with provincial governments to expedite major projects and build a strong and fair economic future for all Canadians."
This meeting comes at a time when relations between some provinces and Ottawa are strained on certain issues, making the apparent harmony in this gathering welcome by various parties.
