The Canadian Environmental Agency issued a heat warning for Ottawa.
The meteorological agency issued the warning yesterday afternoon, Saturday, stating that a hot and humid air mass is expected to reach Southern Ontario today, Sunday. It adds that it may last until Tuesday.
The meteorological agency states that during the heat wave, temperatures are expected to rise between 29 and 31 degrees Celsius - with humidity values approaching 40 degrees.
However, at night, the capital will feel some relief, as temperatures are expected to reach around 20 degrees Celsius.
The Canadian Ministry of Environment said in a statement yesterday Saturday: "Hot and humid air can also lead to a deterioration in air quality and may cause the health air quality index to approach high-risk levels."
The heat warning is expected to end on Tuesday, as a cooler air mass is expected to arrive Tuesday evening, according to the meteorological agency.
People are asked to limit their exposure to direct sunlight, shade themselves, and drink plenty of water to reduce the chances of dehydration.
The meteorological agency stated: "Never leave people behind, especially children or pets, inside a parked vehicle. Ask a health professional, such as a pharmacist or doctor, how medications or health conditions may affect your risks in the heat."
The weather today, Sunday, will be mostly sunny, with a high temperature of 31 degrees Celsius and humidity of 39 degrees Celsius. The low temperature is expected to be 21 degrees Celsius with some cloud cover at night.
The capital will experience the beginning of a hot week, with a high temperature of 31 degrees Celsius and a low of 20 degrees Celsius tomorrow, Monday.
High temperatures will continue until Tuesday, with a maximum of 30 degrees and a minimum of 15 degrees.
