Ottawa city crews continue to work on restoring traffic on many roads that were heavily damaged during a record rainstorm last Friday.

The greatest impact was in the western part of Ottawa, where West Carleton, Kanata, and Carp saw many roads and intersections flooded, according to a memo directed to the council on behalf of Beth Gooding, Director of Public Safety Services.

In some areas, the damage was severe. For example, some waterways were inundated, and some roads partially collapsed. The Public Works, Infrastructure, and Water Services departments are working together and will begin assessing the damage to the roads to determine the necessary repairs," according to the statement.

In an update late Saturday afternoon, Ottawa city staff said that all affected roads are safe and there is no expectation that the damage will worsen.

A memo from Karina Duclos, the city's Director of Infrastructure Services, and Quentin Levisk, the Director of Roads and Parking Services, said, "The immediate focus is on restoring the lanes in the Carp village area, improving access to homes, addressing priority shoulder work on vital roads, and conducting early repairs on the waterways."
