The authorities confirmed that a Canadian citizen was among the passengers on the ill-fated plane that was en route from India to the United Kingdom, which crashed shortly after taking off from Indira Gandhi International Airport, in a tragic incident that left widespread shock.

The aircraft, belonging to “SkyBridge Air”, was carrying 242 passengers, including several foreign nationalities, when it faced a severe technical malfunction just minutes after leaving the runway, leading to its fall in an agricultural area on the outskirts of the capital.

Victims and Injured

The Indian authorities announced that rescue teams rushed to the crash site and managed to recover a number of bodies and injured individuals, while search operations continue under difficult conditions. The final toll of victims has not yet been announced, but preliminary reports indicate a number of fatalities and injuries, including foreign passengers.

The Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that one of the Canadian citizens was on board the flight and that it is closely monitoring the situation, noting that it is in contact with local authorities in India “to verify the safety of the Canadian citizen and provide consular support if needed.”

Immediate Investigation into the Circumstances of the Incident

The Indian Civil Aviation Authority has opened an urgent investigation into the circumstances of the incident, amid questions regarding the technical maintenance record of the aircraft. Aviation accident specialists have been sent to the site to collect evidence and extract data from the black box, in an attempt to determine the precise causes that led to the disaster.

International Comments and Humanitarian Support

The United Kingdom government expressed “deep regret for the incident,” confirming that its embassy in New Delhi is working to identify its nationals and provide the necessary support for the victims' families. The Canadian Prime Minister also expressed solidarity with the families of all the passengers, indicating that his government “will provide every possible support.”
