The Canadian Post (Canada Post) and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) are expected to resume their negotiations in the coming days in an attempt to overcome the ongoing stalemate regarding the collective bargaining agreement, amidst the continued overtime ban imposed by the union since the beginning of this month.
The union stated in a press release that it will hold a new negotiation session with the Canada Post management on Sunday, noting that members are continuing their partial escalation by refusing to accept any overtime hours, which has led to delays in mail delivery in several areas.
This development comes after weeks of stalled negotiations between the two parties, with the union demanding improvements in wages, enhanced safety conditions in the work environment, and greater job security guarantees for temporary contract workers.
For its part, Canada Post expressed hope for reaching an agreement that balances workers' rights with the financial considerations of the corporation, affirming its commitment to continue service and avoid mail disruptions as much as possible.
Canadians are closely following these negotiations, amid fears of further escalation that could include partial or full strikes, which may affect millions of letters and parcels, especially with the approaching summer season and the volume of shipments.
