Calgary Police have laid charges against three individuals in two separate animal cruelty incidents.
Police were called to a local veterinary clinic on January 7 after an 11-week-old puppy was brought in unconscious following the ingestion of illegal drugs.
Investigators searched a home at 6000 Center Street NW on February 6 after a robbery during which a firearm, ammunition, drugs, stolen property, a dog, and nine other puppies were seized.
Christie Lee Sims, 44, of Calgary, and Ryan Clyde Bonnell, 44, of Calgary, each face five charges including causing harm to animals, possession of a controlled substance, and unauthorized possession of a firearm.
Sims is scheduled to appear in court on March 5, while Bonnell is scheduled to appear on February 29.
In a separate incident, officers were called to a local veterinary hospital on February 7 to investigate a dog with serious injuries.
Police said in a press release on Tuesday: “After the veterinary clinic spoke with the man who brought in the injured dog, there were indications of the death of another dog.”
The company searched a home at 6000 33rd Street NW, and the next day, a firearm and two dogs were seized.
As a result, Jeffrey Alan McLarty, 51, of Calgary, was charged with killing and injuring animals, animal cruelty, causing harm to animals, and criminal harassment.
He is scheduled to appear in court on February 28.
Inspector Keith Hurley of the Calgary Police Service said, “We are pleased to announce that all the dogs seized in these investigations have found a safe and happy place to live.”
He urged anyone with information about these incidents to contact the police and report the information.
