The British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, announced an additional £1.6 billion to support Ukraine, aimed at purchasing military equipment and enhancing its defense capabilities, a move he said would also contribute to creating jobs in the defense sector within the United Kingdom.

In his statements, Starmer emphasized Britain's ongoing commitment to supporting Kyiv, saying: “We must put Ukraine in the strongest possible negotiating position, and we are doubling our support to achieve that.” He also confirmed that his government is working with international allies to maintain the momentum of military and political support for Ukraine, noting that this funding reflects “Britain's determination to counter Russian aggression.”

Starmer's Stance on Washington and His Talks with Trump

Regarding the American role, Starmer rejected questioning the credibility of the United States as an ally, affirming that “the United States has been and will remain a reliable ally for many decades.”

The British Prime Minister revealed that he discussed this issue with U.S. President Donald Trump in a phone call, without going into details, but stressed that “all steps being taken aim to achieve lasting peace through close cooperation between Ukraine, Europe, the United Kingdom, and the United States.”

Conditions for Any Future Agreement with Russia

As for any future agreement to end the war, Starmer confirmed the necessity of involving Russia in any settlement, but warned against allowing Moscow to impose its conditions on the security guarantees offered to Ukraine.

He stated in this regard: “We are well aware of the long history of Russian violations, and we will not allow that to be repeated in any future agreement,” emphasizing that any solution must ensure “the independence of Ukraine and its sovereignty over its territory.”

This announcement comes at a time when Britain and its allies are seeking to strengthen military and economic support for Ukraine, amidst rising international tensions and fears of the conflict's expansion.
