The leader of the Canadian Conservative Party, Pierre Poilievre, announced his intention to completely abolish the carbon pricing law if he wins the upcoming elections, emphasizing that this step will also include the fees imposed on industrial emissions.
In his statements, Poilievre clarified that his plan aims to ease the economic burden on Canadians and reduce living costs, noting that the cancellation of carbon pricing will help lower fuel and heating prices. He added that the fees imposed on industrial emissions increase production costs, which are reflected in the prices of goods, negatively affecting consumers.
Poilievre confirmed that his government, if it takes power, will adopt new alternatives to address climate change, without these policies impacting the Canadian economy or burdening citizens.
It is worth noting that carbon pricing is considered a key part of the current federal government's policy to combat climate change and faces widespread criticism from the opposition due to its impact on living costs.
