US President Joe Biden announced today, Friday, an "Israeli proposal" consisting of 3 phases that serves as a roadmap to end the war in Gaza, calling on all parties not to miss the opportunity to reach a deal that ends the war that has been ongoing for more than 8 months.
Biden stated in a televised speech from the White House that Israel has proposed a sustainable ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages in three phases.
He added that the first proposed phase of 6 weeks includes a ceasefire, Israel's withdrawal, and the release of hostages and the remains of those who have died.
Biden continued that the second phase will witness the release of the remaining hostages, including soldiers, and the continuation of the ceasefire, while the third phase concerns what comes after the war and reconstruction.
Regarding the role of the mediators Egypt and Qatar, Biden said, "Egypt and Qatar are working to ensure that Hamas does not resume any military operations against Israel."
Biden stated that the continuation of this conflict will drain Israel's capabilities and increase its isolation.
He also emphasized that the ceasefire agreement will create a different future for the Palestinian people based on self-determination and stability, according to him.
He noted that American negotiators have focused in recent days on a ceasefire in Gaza that leads to the end of the war, the release of hostages, and a better future for Gaza without Hamas.
Biden added that "Israel has the right to defend itself, and if Hamas fails to comply, Israel will resume its self-defense."
He also said, "This deal will lead to calm in the region, including the conclusion of a historic agreement between Israel and Saudi Arabia."
