Power has been cut off to tens of thousands of homes in South Shore, Montreal since Saturday night and until today, Sunday after a bus collided with a power pole.
At the peak of the outage, which began around 10:30 PM last night, electricity was cut to nearly 90,000 Hydro-Quebec customers.
As of Sunday morning, more than 70,000 customers were still without electricity, and power is not expected to be restored until 5 PM.
A statement on Hydro-Quebec's website said: A bus collided with a tower containing two 315 kV power lines, causing it to fall.
Other Hydro-Quebec crews will maneuver to restore electricity to as many customers as possible through other lines; however, some customers will remain without power as a result of these operations, and crews will remain on duty for several hours.
The bus had collided with a vehicle and then crashed into the electricity tower.
Longueuil police said the bus was carrying volunteer firefighters when it collided with another vehicle, veered off the road, and then struck the electricity tower, causing the structure to collapse.
Power had to be cut for safety reasons, and the outage will continue for several hours.
Two people who were on the bus were injured and taken to the hospital, but police say their injuries are not life-threatening.
