Audio recordings obtained by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) revealed conversations among Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) officers regarding the use of force against Wet'suwet'en protesters, who oppose the Coastal GasLink pipeline project in British Columbia.
The recordings, which were obtained through access to information requests, showcased discussions among the officers about "deadly force" and "harsh arrests" against the protesters.
The revelation of these recordings has sparked widespread reactions from human rights activists and members of the Wet'suwet'en community, who considered them evidence of law enforcement abuses against Indigenous peoples in Canada.
For its part, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police has not yet issued an official comment on the content of these recordings, while local community leaders and rights groups are calling for an independent investigation into this matter.
