In a new statement, Ahmad Al-Shar'a, a member of the political leadership of the Syrian “Baath” Party, called on the United States of America to lift the sanctions imposed on Syria, considering that these sanctions negatively affect the Syrian people and hinder reconstruction and recovery efforts from the impacts of the war.
Al-Shar'a added that the American sanctions directly harm the Syrian economy, especially under the current circumstances the country is experiencing, including the destruction of infrastructure and rising poverty and unemployment rates. He emphasized that lifting these sanctions would be an important step towards alleviating humanitarian suffering in Syria and promoting stability in the region.
He expressed hope that this step would contribute to restoring normal relations between Syria and many Western countries, noting the importance of dialogue and understanding among international parties to reach peaceful solutions to the ongoing conflict in the country.
These statements come at a sensitive time, as Syria continues to face significant challenges related to rebuilding and recovery, while the region witnesses important political developments that may affect the future of Syria's international relations.
