Nearly a year after the death of convicted Canadian Robert Pickton inside a federal prison in Quebec, authorities have still not filed any criminal charges in the incident, raising questions about the course of the investigation and the delay of justice in one of the most controversial cases in Canadian crime history.

Pickton, who was 74 years old, was transferred to the hospital in May 2023 after being violently assaulted by another inmate inside the "Port Cartier" correctional facility, where he died days later from his injuries.

Although Canadian police had identified a suspect inmate in the assault, no formal charges have been laid so far, as confirmed by media reports citing police sources, amidst official silence regarding the reasons for the delay in prosecution or revealing the results of the investigation.

Pickton was convicted in 2007 of killing six women, and he is believed to be responsible for the deaths of dozens of other women, most of whom were marginalized individuals and Indigenous people in Greater Vancouver, making him one of the most notorious criminals in the country's history.

The mysterious circumstances of his death inside a highly secure prison, along with the delay in charges, have raised growing frustration among the public and the families of his victims, who have demanded the disclosure of details regarding what happened and accountability for those responsible.
