A recent opinion poll conducted by CBS News revealed that the majority of Americans reject the idea of the United States controlling the Gaza Strip, with 47% of respondents considering this idea "bad," while only 13% saw it as a "good idea," and the rest had no clear opinion on the matter.

This poll comes amid reports of discussions within the U.S. administration regarding the role Washington could play in the post-conflict phase in Gaza, given the ongoing Israeli military operations and their humanitarian and political implications.

In a related context, 145 members of the U.S. Congress sent a letter to President Joe Biden expressing their rejection of any plan aimed at imposing direct American control over Gaza, emphasizing the need to support a political solution that guarantees the rights of Palestinians without entrenching occupation or exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the area.

Former President Donald Trump stirred widespread controversy with his statements about the possibility of handing over the Gaza Strip to the United States after the fighting ends, with resettling Palestinians in other places, which sparked angry reactions both within the United States and internationally, as many international and regional parties rejected these proposals, considering them unrealistic and unfeasible.

In contrast, officials in the White House confirmed that the current administration is focusing on supporting diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the fighting in Gaza, while prioritizing humanitarian assistance and finding long-term solutions that ensure security and stability in the region.

It is worth noting that the Gaza Strip has been experiencing unprecedented military escalation for months, resulting in a severe humanitarian crisis, amid increasing international calls for achieving a comprehensive political settlement that guarantees the rights of Palestinians and ensures security for the region.
