A massive fire broke out in the early hours of this morning in a low-rise residential building under construction in the Yorkville neighborhood of Toronto. The fire started at a house on Scollard Street, near the intersection of Davenport and Bay Street, and quickly spread to nearby buildings and a vehicle that was parked at the site.
According to statements from the spokesperson for Toronto Fire Services, as many as 10 buildings were affected as a result of this fire. Although firefighting teams were able to bring the flames under control, they are still on-site dealing with the remaining hot spots.
Fortunately, no injuries have been reported due to this incident. The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time, and the Office of the Fire Commissioner is expected to begin its investigations soon.
It is worth noting that Bay Street is currently closed between Yorkville and Davenport Streets, and firefighting and investigations are expected to continue throughout the day.
One resident of the affected buildings expressed her shock, saying: “It’s sad and unexpected. It feels unreal.” Meanwhile, another resident noted that her vehicle, which was parked in front of the building, was severely damaged, but she confirmed that she is safe.
Authorities urge residents to avoid the affected area until further notice, to ensure everyone's safety and to facilitate the work of emergency teams.
