145 Democratic representatives in the U.S. House of Representatives sent an official letter to President Donald Trump, calling on him to retract his recent statements about the possibility of the United States seizing Gaza and displacing its inhabitants.

Warnings of Serious Consequences

The representatives expressed their strong condemnation in the letter of what they described as a call for the permanent forced displacement of more than two million Palestinians, warning that such statements contradict American values, violate international law, and could lead to serious consequences for U.S. interests in the Middle East.

The letter emphasized that the proposal put forward by Trump is not only unethical but could significantly damage the United States' global standing and affect its credibility as a fair mediator in the peace process. The representatives also noted that this proposal could expose American forces to greater danger, increase terrorist threats, and complicate diplomatic efforts with regional allies.

Concern About the Impact of the Statements on U.S. Foreign Policy

The representatives warned that these statements could weaken American alliances with Arab nations striving for stability and the reconstruction of Gaza, and they may provide justification for extremist entities to escalate violence in the region.

The signatories of the letter affirmed that the United States must adhere to a fair and lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, based on a two-state solution, rather than encouraging forced displacement, which constitutes a violation of international laws.

Leading the Initiative in Congress

The campaign to gather signatures for the letter was led by Democratic Representatives Sean Casten (Illinois) and Brad Sherman (California), with participation from several prominent Democratic representatives who affirmed that such statements do not represent the Democratic Party's position and do not reflect the values that the United States should defend.

Widespread Condemnation

Alongside this letter, President Trump's statements faced widespread criticism from political, religious, and human rights entities. In the United States, 350 Jewish rabbis signed a statement published in the “New York Times,” strongly condemning Trump's plan for Gaza, describing it as “ethnic cleansing,” emphasizing that forced displacement is a blatant violation of human values and international law.

International Community's Stance

Internationally, several countries, including permanent members of the UN Security Council except the United States, issued statements rejecting any scheme aimed at displacing Palestinians from Gaza, calling for respect for international law and working towards achieving a two-state solution as the only way to ensure peace and stability in the region.

Reactions from the White House

So far, there has been no official comment from the White House or President Trump regarding this letter and the increasing criticism surrounding his recent statements.

This move comes at a time when international criticism of Trump's administration's Middle East policy is escalating, amid warnings that any uncalculated step regarding Gaza could exacerbate security and diplomatic situations in the region.
