Ottawa police are investigating the murder of a young man during a shooting in the eastern part of Ottawa last Friday evening.
The police say the shooting occurred around 10 PM. It took place at 1700 Russell Road, an area located between Industrial Avenue and Smith Road.
Yusuf Suleiman, 19, from Ottawa, has been identified as the sole victim.
Signs of evidence were seen lining the ground where the bullets had flown. Investigators cordoned off the area where the violence occurred.
Nearby residents expressed their shock and fears on Saturday morning.
Kristin Fraser, who lives nearby, said: "I know the kids in this community, and I’m very sad because even that kid was a good kid. I saw him everywhere all the time. He’s just a nice boy. It’s sad."
Investigators are collecting evidence and going door to door to speak with potential witnesses. The police have not provided any descriptions of suspects and have not made any arrests.
Huda Sheikh, who lives in the community, said: "I’m not sure exactly what happened, but it’s horrifying. It makes me more afraid for my children who go out of the house."
Investigators are seeking surveillance video from residents and anyone who might have been in the area at the time of the incident.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Ottawa police's homicide unit at 613-236-1222 extension 5493.
