Days after Ukraine launched a surprise military incursion into the Russian border area of Kursk, Zelensky broke the government's silence on the matter late Saturday by indirectly acknowledging the ongoing military actions "to push the war into the territory of the aggressor" in his nightly address.

Overnight into Sunday, a Russian drone and missile bombardment on Kyiv resulted in the deaths of two people, one of whom was a four-year-old boy. In Russia, the governor of the Kursk region stated that a Ukrainian missile intercepted by Russian air defenses fell on a residential building, injuring 13 people.

The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia attacked Ukraine with four ballistic missiles and 57 Shahed drones. Air defenses shot down 53 drones.

The bodies of a 35-year-old man and his son were found under the rubble after missile fragments struck a residential area in the Brovary district of Kyiv, according to Ukraine’s government emergency service on Sunday. Three other people were also injured in the area during the attack.

Serhiy Popko, head of the Kyiv military administration, stated that this was the second time this month that Kyiv has been targeted.

Popko mentioned that the ballistic missiles did not reach the capital, but the suburbs took the hit, while drones targeting the capital were shot down.

Zelensky, citing preliminary information, claimed that Russia used a North Korean missile in the strike. Ukraine and the United States had previously stated that Russia used North Korean missiles in the war.

Zelensky renewed his call for Western allies to increase aid to Ukraine, saying: "To truly stop Russian terrorism, we need not only a complete air shield to protect all our cities and communities but also strong decisions from partners—decisions that would remove the limitations on our defensive actions."

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian incursion into Russia continued for the sixth day. This was the largest attack of its kind since the unprecedented full-scale invasion, employing Ukrainian military units on Russian territory, and it surprised Moscow, embarrassing Russian military leaders who rushed to contain the breach.

The precise objectives of the operation remain unclear, and Ukrainian military officials have adopted a policy of secrecy, likely to ensure its success. Military experts suggested that the operation is likely intended to draw Russian reserves away from the intense fighting in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine, while a presidential advisor proposed that the operation might strengthen Kyiv's position in any future negotiations with Russia.

Acting governor of Kursk, Alexei Smirnov, stated on Sunday that a "Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance group" had entered the Belovsky region the day before, but the situation has "stabilized."

In Russia, the Ministry of Defense reported that 35 drones were shot down overnight over the regions of Kursk, Voronezh, Belgorod, Bryansk, and Oryol.

Ukraine did not comment on the drone attacks that occurred on Sunday within Russia. However, this comes at a time when Ukraine has increased the pace of similar drone attacks, largely targeting military infrastructure and oil depots in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, Belarus announced it would send more troops to its border with Ukraine on Saturday, stating that Ukrainian drones had violated its airspace as part of Kyiv's military incursion into the Russian Kursk region.

Authoritarian leader Alexander Lukashenko claimed that Belarusian air defense had destroyed dozens of targets flying from Ukraine over the Mogilev region, which borders Russia, on Friday night.

Lukashenko said at a meeting in Minsk on Saturday: "The armed forces of Ukraine violated all codes of conduct and breached the airspace of the Republic of Belarus. In the eastern direction, near us in the Kostiukovichi area."

Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin declared that Belarus considers the violation of its airspace a provocation and is "prepared to take retaliatory actions."
