Democratic Kamala Harris and Republican Donald Trump are competing in the race for the White House, with polling places gradually closing across the United States today, Wednesday.

Initial results have begun to emerge, and American media has predicted Trump has won so far in 16 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Dakota, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, West Virginia, Texas, and Wyoming.

Harris has won so far in seven states: Delaware, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, in addition to the federal capital, Washington.

So far, Harris has received 81 electoral votes and Trump has 168 in the Electoral College.

One candidate must obtain 270 votes to win. Observers expect the outcome to be determined by a few key battleground states.
