The official Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported that a high-level Israeli delegation has departed for Qatar to discuss the details of a prisoner exchange deal with Hamas, in a move aimed at making progress in the negotiations between the two parties.
The Israeli delegation consists of representatives from three main security agencies in Israel: the Shabak (General Security), the Mossad (Intelligence Agency), and representatives from the Israeli army. According to sources, this visit is considered a technical visit aimed at discussing the detailed mechanisms for implementing the exchange deal, which involves the release of prisoners in exchange for the release of Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons.
The visit comes at a sensitive time amid rising international pressure to find compromise solutions to halt the military aggression in Gaza, following weeks of war and fighting. The elected U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed interest in the issue, promising to work on securing the release of hostages in Gaza, as well as ending the conflict.
For its part, diplomatic sources reported that the negotiations conducted by the Israeli delegation in Qatar seek to address the technical issues related to the details of the exchange, including determining the number of prisoners and detainees to be released at each stage of the deal. The talks are expected to last for several days before announcing any formal agreement.
Israeli government officials also mentioned that this visit is part of the efforts initiated by the Egyptian delegation to mediate between the Palestinian and Israeli sides to reach a comprehensive agreement that halts the violence and respects the rights of prisoners.
It is worth noting that Hamas has shown flexibility in negotiating several outstanding issues and is willing to continue talks with Israel on the condition that the Israeli aggression is halted and the siege imposed on Gaza is lifted.
