The former American President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he has accepted the Republican Party's nomination for the third consecutive time for the U.S. presidential election, just five days after surviving an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, emphasizing the need for Americans to remember that they are "one nation."

Trump said in a speech at the Republican National Convention: "It is time now to remember that we are one nation, and we must not strip humanity from ourselves."

He added: "I am grateful to the American people for standing by me in the aftermath of the assassination attempt I faced. And I thank everyone who risked their lives to protect me during my assassination attempt."

Trump predicted in his 93-minute speech that he would achieve a "stunning victory" in the presidential election scheduled for November, promising "the best four years in the history" of the United States if he wins the race to the White House.

He said: "I am running to be the president of all of America, not just half of America," pointing out that he "will immediately end the inflation crisis in the United States and will lower interest rates."

Assassination Attempt

The former American president spoke extensively during his speech about the assassination attempt, stating that "if I hadn’t moved my head at that last moment to read the data on immigration efforts during my administration, the bullet would have hit me perfectly."

He continued: "My right hand moved toward my ear. My hand was covered in blood, and blood was everywhere. I immediately knew the situation was serious and that we were under attack," noting that "the brave Secret Service agents rushed to the stage and put themselves in danger to protect me."

Trump added: "Although blood was flowing everywhere, I felt a sense of safety because I knew God was by my side."

He continued: "I am grateful to the American people for standing by me in the aftermath of the assassination attempt I faced. And I thank everyone who risked their lives to protect me during my assassination attempt."

He added: "I tell you that I stand before you now at this ceremony thanks to God and His mercy."

The former president thanked the Secret Service agents and law enforcement officers who did an "excellent job" after the shooting, stating that he "stood up and raised his fist after the incident to let people know that he was okay and in good condition."

During his speech, Trump called for a moment of silence for the soul of Corey Kimbrell, who was killed in the assassination attempt, noting that he spoke with the injured and Kimbrell's family. Additionally, the campaign has managed to raise $6.3 million in the past few days for the families of the victim and the injured.

He continued: "Despite this heinous attack, we unite this evening more determined than ever. Our resolve has not broken, and our goal has not changed, which is to deliver a government that serves the American people."

Call for Unity

During his speech, Trump pledged to be "the president of all Americans and not just half of them," saying: "It is time now to remember that we are one nation, and we must not strip humanity from ourselves."

The Republican candidate called during his speech not to "criminalize opposition or demonize political disagreements," denouncing once again the legal actions against him.

The former president urged Democrats to stop immediately describing him as "an enemy of democracy," considering that "they are destroying our country."

Trump said: "We should not criminalize opposition or demonize political disagreement. In this spirit, the Democratic Party must immediately stop weaponizing the justice system and labeling its political opponents as enemies of democracy, especially since this is untrue. In fact, I am the person who is saving democracy for the people of our country."

The Presidential Race

Trump mentioned his Democratic rival, President Joe Biden, only once, which is a significant reduction compared to more than 40 times during his acceptance speech for the Republican nomination in 2020, but he highlighted the deep political differences between them on several issues, including immigration, energy policies, and the economy.

Trump predicted during his speech that he would achieve a "stunning victory" in the presidential election, promising "the best four years in the history" of the United States.

He said: "Together, we will save this country, restore the republic, and herald rich and wonderful days that our people truly deserve. America's future will be greater, better, bolder, and more glorious, and happier, and stronger, and more united than ever before."

He continued: "Simply put, we will make America great again very quickly."

Domestic Issues

During his speech, Trump promised to close the southern borders of his country (to illegal immigrants) on his first day in office if he wins the election, and to finish building the wall on the border with Mexico, which was one of the key projects during his first term in the White House.

The Republican candidate stated in his speech: "I will end the illegal immigration crisis by closing our borders and completing the wall."

He also committed to "huge tax cuts for workers’ tips," lowering interest rates and energy costs, and eliminating inflation, stating that he would seek to implement a "broad-based reduction in prices."

Trump said: "I will work to end the devastating inflation crisis immediately, lower interest rates, and reduce energy costs."

He added that the United States during his administration enjoyed "the best economy in the history of our country."

Foreign Issues

The former American president also spoke about the Russian invasion of Ukraine, pointing out that "Russia dared to invade Ukraine after the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan."

Trump said: "Our withdrawal from Afghanistan was embarrassing and tragic. Look at what is happening with Israel and Ukraine; this started with the withdrawal from Afghanistan."

He added: "After this tragedy, Russia was emboldened and invaded Ukraine. Afghanistan is now selling the weapons we gave them to the world."

Trump noted during his speech that "his administration was able to eliminate ISIS completely in Iraq and Syria within a few months, which would have taken at least 5 years," praising the efforts of "the excellent American military."

He also mentioned that his good relationship with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un "limited North Korea's missile tests."

He said: "I completely agreed with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, and the press criticized that. But it was good to agree with someone who has nuclear weapons, as we stopped missile launches from North Korea, and now they are launching them in a bad way."

Trump pointed out during his speech that the world is close to "World War III," saying: "War is raging now in Europe and the Middle East, and there is an increasing specter of conflict looming over Taiwan, Korea, the Philippines, and all of Asia, and our planet is teetering on the brink of World War III."

The Gaza War

Trump referred during his speech to the attacks launched by Hamas on Israel on October 7 and the subsequent war in Gaza, where he promised to "end the war," and reiterated what he had said previously that "the war would not have happened under his leadership."

He continued: "To the whole world, I say this: We want our hostages back, and it would be better if they returned before I take office, otherwise you will pay a very high price."

Trump did not specify the hostages he was referring to, but there are over 60 Americans being held hostage or detained around the world, including 8 Americans held by Hamas in Gaza.

He said: "The war that resulted from the attack on Israel would not have happened if I were president. Iran was bankrupt. And now it has $250 billion. They achieved all this in the last two and a half years," noting that the Biden administration "eased sanctions on Tehran."
