U.S. President Donald Trump stated today, Wednesday, that the imposition of the new package of tariffs on foreign imports represents “one of the most important days in America’s history,” considering it an “economic declaration of independence” for the United States.
Trump said in a speech from the White House:
“Today is a historic day; it is our economic declaration of independence. We will no longer allow America to be exploited by what he called ‘unfair partners.’”
These statements come as the comprehensive tariffs approved by Trump take effect, a step that has sparked widespread reactions from Canada and other countries, which consider it a direct threat to global trade stability.
