The American president Donald Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had a phone call this morning to discuss the tariffs recently imposed by the United States on Canada. During the call, Trudeau expressed his dissatisfaction with these tariffs, asserting that Canada would take retaliatory measures to protect its economic interests.

Trump also stated, I spoke with the Prime Minister of Canada and I will speak with him again in the evening.

For his part, Trump acknowledged that Americans may feel economic "pain" as a result of these tariffs, but he considered that securing American interests "is worth this price." He also noted that the United States has a surplus of resources and can do without Canadian imports in areas such as energy and lumber.

In a quick reaction, some Canadian provinces announced the removal of American products from their stores. For example, the liquor company in Ontario (LCBO) will begin removing American alcoholic beverages from its shelves starting Tuesday.

These developments come amid rising trade tensions between the United States and its key partners, raising concerns about the outbreak of a global trade war that could adversely affect the international economy.
