The American president, Donald Trump, declared that the Canadian province of Ontario is “not allowed” to impose additional tariffs on electricity exports to the United States. This statement came in response to the Ontario government’s announcement of its intention to impose new fees on electricity exported to several U.S. states.

Trump said in remarks reported by the media: “We don’t need their energy. They cannot impose these additional fees, and we will not allow them to do that.” He added that the United States has sufficient energy sources to meet its needs without relying on Canadian electricity.

These statements come amid rising trade tensions between the United States and Canada, with concerns that the new fees could lead to increased energy costs in some U.S. states that rely on Canadian electricity.

The Ontario government has not yet issued an official comment on Trump’s statements, but government sources indicated that the proposed fees aim to enhance local revenues and ensure the stability of the electricity grid in the province.
