The police confirmed today, Monday, that the body of a 14-year-old boy was recovered from Lake Ontario after drowning while swimming near Ashbridges Bay Park on Sunday evening.

The police were still searching for a teenage boy who entered the water in the Beaches neighborhood of Toronto on Sunday night and did not resurface.

The police said they were called to the Ashbridges Bay Park area around 6 p.m. to report a person missing in the water.

Upon their arrival, the officers learned that two civilians had gone into the lake to try to rescue the missing person but to no avail.

One of them, described as a young man, was taken to a children's hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The second person who tried to assist, an adult male, was treated at the scene and then released.

Several firefighting rescue boats were deployed on Lake Ontario, near Northern Dancer Boulevard and Lake Shore Boulevard East, on Sunday evening in an attempt to locate the missing young man.

The police confirmed earlier on Monday that the search is ongoing and that officers at the scene will provide an update at 1 p.m.
