The World Food Programme announced the suspension of humanitarian aid distribution through the American offshore pier off Gaza due to "security concerns."

The director of the United Nations World Food Programme, Cindy McCain, said today, Monday, that the programme "has halted" the distribution of humanitarian aid from an American pier built off Gaza, expressing her concern about safety.

She added, "We have stepped back for the time being, and we want to ensure we are in safe conditions and on safe ground before we resume operations. But our operations continue in the north and south."

The UN's announcement of the suspension seems to be the latest setback for the American offshore route, which was established under the pretext of trying to bring more aid to the besieged people of Gaza.

According to "Sky News Arabia," the UN did not provide any further details, including how long the suspension would last.

Earlier, the U.S. Central Command, "Centcom," issued a statement denying any role in the use of the floating pier in the operation to rescue Israeli hostages held by Hamas from the Nusairat camp in the Gaza Strip.

Reports had circulated about the entry of forces to carry out the rescue operation, under humanitarian cover via aid vehicles to the camp coming from the floating offshore pier.
