Toronto police said that an officer was stabbed and a suspect was shot during an incident that occurred in the western part of the city yesterday afternoon, Friday.

The incident happened in the College Street and Lansdowne Avenue area at about 1:30 PM.

Police said that both the officer and the suspect were transported to the hospital, with the officer sustaining non-life-threatening injuries, and the condition of the person who was shot by police is unknown.

They announced that Dundas Street is currently closed in both directions from Lansdowne Avenue to College Street for police investigations.

While it is not exactly clear where the altercation took place, images from the scene show a police cordon surrounding a yard near the intersection.

The Special Investigations Unit confirmed yesterday that it is investigating the incident, and the Special Investigations Unit is called in any time police are involved in an incident that results in death or serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.

The incident comes just days after Toronto police announced that two officers were injured in separate assaults in the city last Tuesday evening, with one officer sustaining serious injuries to his leg and requiring surgery.
