Toronto – Arab Canada News

Three companies based in Ontario have pleaded guilty and were fined after a federal investigation revealed the hiring of more than 700 foreign workers without permits.

According to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), CDA Landscaping Services, based in Ajax, was fined $400,000 after admitting to 20 charges related to hiring foreign workers without permits.

Likewise, TDA Landscaping Services and SDA Services each pleaded guilty to two charges, and were fined $25,000 for each company.

Investigation Details:

The case began in 2019 when the Ontario Provincial Police arrested a foreign national for driving under the influence. This led to the uncovering of a network of unauthorized workers spanning across Ontario and the Greater Toronto Area.

During the investigation, more than 700 foreign workers were identified as having been employed by these companies without legal permission to work in Canada.

Subsequent Actions:

CBSA reported that many of the workers identified during the investigation have been deported from Canada after being deemed inadmissible due to criminal records.

Since last year, the agency has deported 16,470 foreigners due to immigration-related violations.

Statements from Officials:

Aaron McCrory, Vice President of the Intelligence and Enforcement Branch at CBSA, stated:

“These charges and convictions reflect a thorough investigation and our commitment to maintaining the integrity of the Canadian immigration system. CBSA officers and investigators work diligently with law enforcement partners, including the Ontario Provincial Police, to secure the borders and ensure accountability for those who violate the law.”

Background:

This case demonstrates the Canadian authorities' commitment to combating the illegal employment of foreign workers and ensuring that all employees in the country are working with legal permits, thereby protecting workers' rights and the integrity of the Canadian labor market.
