Thousands of people across Germany returned today, Saturday, to protest against the right-wing and to support a society characterized by openness and tolerance.

Police statements indicated that up to 4,000 people peacefully demonstrated in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, while 3,200 people protested in the city of Rostock in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania under the slogan "This must never happen again now," with organizers estimating the number of participants in this demonstration at more than 5,000.

It is noted that the slogan "This must never happen again" in Germany means not returning to repeat the crimes committed by the Nazi regime again.

Police reported that about 2,000 people protested in the city of Werne in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, and about 1,200 people demonstrated in the Unna district in the state located in western Germany.

In the city of Sinsheim in the state of Baden-Württemberg, about 1,500 people demonstrated under the slogan "Diverse Sinsheim," according to a police spokesperson there. At least 1,100 people protested in the city of Jena in the state of Thuringia, according to statements from a representative of the "Diverse Jena" alliance, while the police estimated the number of protesters at about 1,000 people. The state also witnessed several other marches involving several hundreds.

Germany has been witnessing a wave of massive protests against the right-wing for about a month.

Police statements indicated that more than 150,000 people gathered in front of the parliament building (Reichstag) in the capital Berlin last week.

Protests against the far-right broke out in large and small German cities after a report was published on January 10 by the investigative journalism group "Correctiv."

The report revealed details of a meeting held in the city of Potsdam last November between far-right individuals and some politicians from the Alternative for Germany party, where plans to expel millions of people of immigrant origin were discussed.
