Canadian media reported that their women's soccer team is at risk of losing the three points earned on Thursday against New Zealand, and also the Tokyo 2020 gold medal, due to the involvement of the coaching staff in a spying case.

Involved from the Canadian women's team are Joseph Lombardi, the video analyst, Jasmin Mander, the assistant coach, and the head coach, Englishwoman Bev Priestman, who sent a drone to spy on New Zealand's training before Thursday's match.

The Thursday match ended with Canada defeating New Zealand (2-1) in the group stage.

Media reported on Friday that the disciplinary committee of FIFA is investigating the issue.

They confirmed that FIFA is currently scrutinizing the achievement of the Canadian women's gold medal win at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, because the involved coach, Priestman, was leading the training.

David Shoemaker, the CEO of the Canadian Olympic Committee, confirmed the news, expressing his concern about the potential loss of the only gold medal for Canada's women's soccer team.

He commented on the radio: "This is what makes me feel nauseous; I feel nauseous when I think that something might cast doubt on one of my favorite Olympic moments in history, the women's team winning the gold medal despite all the difficulties amidst the pandemic restrictions."
