The Canadian authorities announced the exemption of Canadians from the tourist tax when traveling to Thailand, and the Thai Prime Minister, Srettha Thavisin, announced in June the government's decision to abolish the 300 baht tourism fee, about 11 Canadian dollars.

The Public Relations Department in Thailand issued a press statement stating that the fees, which were to be collected from every tourist entering Thailand, were abandoned on the grounds that their cancellation could encourage increased tourist spending in other areas, and thus provide a larger boost to the economy.

The previous government of Southeast Asian countries had announced these fees in February 2023.

It stated that this cost would be allocated to the development of tourist attractions and help cover health care for uninsured travelers.

The tourism tax was imposed on all foreigners traveling to Thailand by air, but it faced significant opposition from the private sector, according to the Government Public Relations Department.

It is an insurance coverage of up to 500,000 baht, about 20,000 Canadian dollars per person
allocated in the event of accidents, as mentioned by the Bangkok Post, which includes tourists who were involved in accidents or any acts of unrest or terrorist attacks, as well as in the event of any natural disasters.
