Canadian Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland stated in a media interview that approval has been granted for 2 million Canadian seniors to receive coverage, according to the Canadian dental care plan, since the program's inception three weeks ago.
She added during her remarks at a press conference that it truly delights us to announce that starting this week, approval has been granted for two million Canadian seniors to receive coverage under our new Canadian dental care plan.
She further stated: This means that two million seniors across Canada are now able to access the dental care they need.
In addition to the millions of seniors who have now registered for dental care, Freeland mentioned that there are also about 10,000 dentists providing these services to patients under the insurance offered by Sun Life.
Freeland said this includes dentists as well as dental specialists and dental hygienists and independent dentists.
On another note, Health Minister Mark Holland mentioned that by next year, dental care coverage will be provided for nine million uninsured Canadians.
It is worth noting that the dental care program was a result of an agreement between the Liberals and the New Democratic Party as part of the confidence and supply deal agreed upon by both parties, aimed at keeping the Liberal government in power until 2025. Seniors aged 65 and over, who do not have access to dental insurance and have a net family income of less than $90,000, can apply for the CDCP online or in person at Service Canada.
Starting in June, applications will be available for children under 18 years old, as well as for individuals with a valid disability tax credit certificate. Canadian residents eligible between the ages of 18 to 64 will also be able to apply online starting in 2025.
