Canada welcomed the announcement of a temporary ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel, which came through American mediation. The Canadian government affirmed its commitment to supporting efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions and ensuring stability in the region.

Canada called on all parties to respect the agreement and work towards long-term solutions that enhance security and peace, focusing on protecting civilians and providing humanitarian assistance to areas affected by the conflict.

It also praised the international role in achieving this agreement and called for its continuation to achieve comprehensive peace.

For her part, Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly welcomed the ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel and stated in a tweet on X platform, "The ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon is a necessary step towards lasting peace."

She added, "All parties must adhere to the agreement to ensure stability along the Lebanese-Israeli border and allow civilians to return home safely. Diplomacy must remain the focus."

It is worth mentioning that Canada has adopted a cautious and balanced position regarding the ongoing conflict between Hezbollah and Israel, emphasizing the importance of the temporary ceasefire to allow for diplomatic and humanitarian solutions. The Canadian government joined international calls for de-escalation and adherence to United Nations Security Council resolutions, such as resolutions 1701 and 2735, which call for easing tensions and ensuring regional stability.

In light of the deteriorating security situation in Lebanon, Canada has prepared plans to evacuate its citizens, urging approximately 45,000 Canadians in Lebanon to leave via commercial flights. The Canadian Armed Forces also worked to prepare the necessary resources and equipment in the region to ensure a rapid response when needed for emergency evacuations. In addition, Canada collaborated with Australia to provide additional transportation options, including chartering a cruise ship for potential evacuations of citizens.

Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly stated that the situation remains volatile, and she emphasized Canada's readiness to support its citizens and provide necessary consular assistance. Defense Minister Bill Blair also stressed Canada's commitment to protecting civilians and calling for de-escalation and restraint from both sides.
