The results of a survey conducted by the Nanos Research Center indicate the continued rise of the Conservative Party led by Pierre Poilievre, with their support reaching 42% nationally, putting them in a comfortable position to achieve a majority government if an election were held now. In contrast, the Liberal Party under Justin Trudeau struggles with only 23% support, while the New Democratic Party has 21%, reflecting a significant closeness between them.
Key findings:
• Decline of Liberals in traditional areas: Projections show the Liberals losing important areas in Ontario, British Columbia, and the Atlantic, where the Conservatives are making significant gains. Even areas like Peel and Mississauga, which were considered Liberal strongholds, are now “turning-competitive” for the Conservatives.
• Impact of vote splitting: Liberals are suffering from a split in left-leaning votes between the New Democratic Party and their own party, while Conservatives benefit from unifying their base.
• Measures have not made an impact: Recent economic measures launched by Trudeau, such as a temporary reduction of the Goods and Services Tax and providing $250 checks to some citizens, have not improved voter support for the Liberal Party.
Gloomy future for Trudeau
As the “blue wave” continues in favor of the Conservatives, analysts see a difficult road ahead for the Liberals, especially amid economic criticisms and popularity challenges. If this momentum persists, Trudeau may face a significant loss in the upcoming election.
