The Toronto Police said that an officer was stabbed and a suspect was shot during an incident that occurred in the west end of the city this afternoon, Friday.

This happened in the area of College Street and Lansdowne Avenue around 1:30 p.m.

The police said that both the officer and the suspect were taken to the hospital via emergency services. The officer sustained injuries that are not life-threatening, according to the Toronto Police. The condition of the person who was shot by police is not known.

Dundas Street is currently closed in both directions from College Street to Lansdowne Avenue for police investigations.

While it is not exactly clear where the altercation took place, photos from the scene show police tape cordoning off an area near the intersection.

The police have not yet stated whether the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been notified. The province's police oversight body is investigating and the SIU is called in anytime police are involved in an incident that results in death or serious injury or claims of sexual assault.

This incident comes just days after the Toronto Police announced that two officers were injured in separate attacks on Tuesday evening. One officer sustained serious injuries to his leg and had to undergo surgery, the head of the Toronto Police Association told CP24 earlier this week.
