The police charged three teenagers after they broke into a house in Guelph, Ontario, armed and assaulted three people inside, including a small child.
Guelph police said one of the mothers had just finished bathing her 18-month-old daughter at their home near Willow Road and North Edinburgh Road around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday night the day before when she heard knocking at the door.
When she opened the door, she found an unknown teenager standing on the front doorstep, and police said two other teenagers wearing masks and carrying a metal frame and metal rods were standing at the corner of the house before they forcibly entered.
Investigators explained that the teenagers kicked the woman in the stomach, pushed her infant daughter into the wall, and then entered the living room to assault a man.
Police said they started hitting the man on the head with the metal frame before fleeing the house.
The three victims were taken to Guelph General Hospital for assessment and treatment; the man's nose was broken, the mother was not injured, and the child suffered a bruise on her head.
Officers arrested three suspects in downtown shortly before 11 p.m.
A 17-year-old from Fergus and a 19-year-old from Guelph were charged with break and enter and armed assault, assault causing bodily harm and two counts of assault, as well as possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
An 18-year-old from Fergus was also charged with break and enter and armed assault, assault causing bodily harm, and two counts of assault.
The police confirmed that the incident was targeted.
