A baby was killed, and three others, including another child, were taken to the hospital after a motorcycle crash in Forties, New South Wales, on Monday.

A press release from the police on Wednesday stated that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in the Lunenburg area, along with firefighters and paramedics, responded to the collision that occurred on the side of a logging road near a block of Forties Road shortly after 7 PM.

According to the police, officers learned that the vehicle was traveling on a narrow gravel road when it rolled over and landed on its roof.

Among the four passengers, an infant was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died.

Two adults, a 27-year-old woman who was driving and a 52-year-old man from New Ross, NS, were taken to the hospital with serious injuries, and a second child from the Forties suffered minor injuries, which the police say he was also taken to the hospital.

According to Gillaume Tremblay from Nova Scotia RCMP, alcohol may have been a factor in the incident, with findings depending on "the evidence collected at this time."

Forties Road was closed for several hours but has since been reopened.

The investigation is still ongoing.
