Canada Goose, the luxury winter coat manufacturer, announced that it will close its factory in the city of Boisbriand in the province of Quebec and lay off 180 workers out of the 330 employees currently working there.

The company’s name appeared in the monthly list of collective dismissal notices received by the Ministry of Labor and Social Solidarity in the Quebec government during the month of March.

In a statement, the Canadian company, through a communications agency, said that its lease contract ends at "the end of July" and that it "will integrate" the activities of the Boisbriand factory "into its headquarters on Chabanel Street (in Montreal) in the coming months, including transferring employees."

The company also said in its official statement that it is working on developing a plan "to transfer as many employees as possible from Boisbriand to its facilities on Chabanel Street."

Canada Goose currently does not plan for other "integrations."

"We are confident in our production infrastructure and the performance of our other seven facilities in Canada," added the company, which is headquartered in Toronto, Canada’s economic capital.

The Boisbriand factory was opened in 2017 and was Canada Goose’s first factory in the province of Quebec, employing more than 500 employees in 2019.

Canada Goose also owns a factory in Montreal, Quebec’s largest city, three in the Greater Toronto Area in Ontario province, and three others in Winnipeg, the capital of Manitoba province.
