Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas emphasized on Thursday that "there is an urgent and immediate need to implement the United Nations Security Council resolution for an immediate ceasefire, the introduction of humanitarian aid, and the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip," while expressing his hope for Palestine to be accepted as a member of the BRICS group in the near future.

Abbas stated at the expanded closing meeting of the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia: "We affirm our desire for the State of Palestine to join the BRICS Union in the near future," adding that the countries of this economic bloc have become a decisive and influential force in setting the standards for international peace and security.

Abbas reiterated the desire of the State of Palestine to join the BRICS group, enhance partnership, dialogue, and engage in activities with its members, confirming the full readiness of the State of Palestine to commit to the purposes, practices, and activities of this group in order to achieve its goals.

He emphasized that Palestine wants to strengthen its partnership with the BRICS group, participate in the group's activities, and work in the spirit of unity.

He stated that "the State of Palestine considers the principles underlying the BRICS group as an integral part of its policy, which believes in justice, mutual respect, and shared prosperity, representing the aspirations of our people."

In his remarks, he mentioned that "achieving justice for the Palestinian people is the most important test at this historical stage, and the time has come to stop injustice and end practices of military coercion and counter extending the duration of occupation."

International Conference for Peace

The Palestinian President called for the imposition of sanctions against Israel if it fails to comply with the General Assembly resolution, and for working with the United Nations and relevant parties to hold an international conference for peace.

Abbas urged the countries of the world to "implement the UN General Assembly resolution regarding the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, and to compel the occupying authorities to end their illegal presence on the land of the State of Palestine, with its capital in East Jerusalem within one year."

He emphasized the urgent need for a more balanced and just global system, especially in light of the failure of current international system institutions to find effective solutions to the increasing crises and chronic issues facing the world, foremost among them the Palestinian issue.

The Palestinian President said: "We rely heavily in this context on the countries of the BRICS group, calling on the international community to reject and condemn the Israeli government's decision to close the main headquarters of UNRWA in East Jerusalem, and to 'disrupt its work in caring for Palestinian refugees in the occupied land of the State of Palestine, and forcing it to reverse this decision.'
