Israeli media reported today, Friday, that the Israeli army plans to withdraw completely from the Netzarim axis next Sunday, according to the ceasefire agreement made with Hamas. This anticipated withdrawal comes after Israeli forces began evacuating the western part of the axis in recent days, with the aim of allowing displaced Palestinians to return to their homes in northern Gaza.
Conditions of Withdrawal:
The successful completion of this withdrawal is conditioned on the smooth execution of the fifth phase of the prisoner exchange deal. In case of any complications or failures in the exchange process, the withdrawal may be postponed or reconsidered.
Background of the Axis:
It is noted that the Netzarim axis, which separates the southern and northern parts of Gaza, was established by the Israeli army during recent military operations and was used as a buffer zone to control movement between parts of the strip.
Return of Displaced Persons:
As the partial withdrawal begins, tens of thousands of displaced Palestinians have started moving through the main roads, such as Al-Rasheed Street and Salah al-Din Street, to return to their homes in the northern part of the strip. Crossing points have been opened to allow the population to return on foot and by vehicles after inspection.
Reactions:
Reactions to this development have varied; Hamas considered the return of the displaced "a victory for our people and a declaration of the failure and defeat of the occupation and its displacement plans." For its part, Israeli sources confirmed that this step comes within the framework of recent understandings with international mediators and aims to achieve a long-term calm in the region.
As the date of the complete withdrawal approaches on Sunday, everyone is awaiting the smooth implementation of the terms of the agreement, especially regarding the prisoner exchange deal, to ensure the continuity of the calm and the return of life to normal in the Gaza Strip.
