Toronto police said they arrested 32 people and laid 158 criminal charges after an almost year-long investigation into the street gang "Jamestown Crips".

Toronto police announced this during a press conference on Thursday where they provided details about "Project V.O.X.". The goal of the 11-month investigation was to disrupt an alleged drug and firearm trafficking network that police say is connected to the gang.

Deputy Police Chief Robert Johnson said at the press conference: "I am pleased to announce the conclusion of an important interprovincial investigation into firearms and drugs in a Toronto street gang that has led to the arrest of 32 people and the laying of 158 charges over the past 11 months."

"The Jamestown Crips are a long-established street gang operating in Toronto. Many gang affiliates have been involved in the illegal possession of firearms. Many of these affiliates have engaged in the trafficking of illegal drugs across Ontario, Manitoba, and Newfoundland and Labrador."

Officers executed 35 search warrants in Toronto, Hamilton, Vaughan, Brampton, Mississauga, Guelph, and Thompson in Manitoba, resulting in the arrest of the 32 suspects. Johnson told reporters that gang members used Canada Post to distribute drugs to other provinces.
