The police arrested two individuals in downtown Toronto on Friday afternoon in connection with an investigation into a car theft that led to a video-recorded chase.
Toronto police stated that an automatic license plate recognition camera alerted officers about a stolen truck in the area of Queen Street West and University Avenue around 3:15 PM on Friday, prompting them to investigate.
At some point, police said the truck driver collided with a police cruiser.
It appears the truck later crashed into the Little Burgundy store on Queen Street West.
Video recorded by citizens in the area shows police cruisers chasing the truck driver after the incident.
As one officer approaches the vehicle, another person jumps out of the front passenger door and flees.
Officers were seen pursuing him, including a member of the mounted unit, and the person filming can be heard saying, "There’s a horse."
Police stated that an officer in the cruiser who was injured was taken to the hospital.
They added that a police horse was also struck by the vehicle and its condition is under evaluation.
The charges, if any, were not immediately known.
